At dusk, a bat’s flight can easily go unnoticed. Beneath the eaves, a swallow finds somewhere to raise its young. In a corner of the vegetable garden, small insects search for food and shelter. We share our surroundings with them, yet we do not always understand their needs or know how to make room for them.
Biodiversity Guardians invites us to look more closely at this everyday wildlife and learn how to care for it. The project builds on the work begun with Guardianes Nocturnos and broadens its focus: alongside bats, it will explore swallows and the beneficial insects that are part of our local ecosystems.

Understanding comes first
A lack of knowledge is often the first obstacle to protecting a species. We want to explain, in clear language, the roles these animals play, the difficulties they face and what we can do at home, at school or in a shared community space. Without alarmism, and without treating nature as a collection of facts unrelated to everyday life.
The Valencian huerta will connect these stories. Its fields, buildings and open spaces offer a familiar, shared landscape in which to explore biodiversity. We want observing this environment to become another way of understanding its value.
Learning through play
We are preparing activities that combine information and participation. They include a web game about bats, a quiz to explore what we have learnt and educational materials for families and schools. The aim is to offer different ways in: reading, watching, playing and talking together.
We will also bring together practical resources about wildlife shelters and insect hotels. Installing a structure is not an end in itself: it matters to understand its purpose, where it might be useful and what care it needs. Learning to observe and respect any animals using it is part of the process.
Caring for biodiversity together
We hope these materials will start conversations: which animals do we see nearby, what places allow them to thrive, and what could we change to live alongside them more thoughtfully? The project connects knowledge with everyday choices, without requiring specialist experience or a large intervention to get started.
We will share resources and updates on the project page. Whether you are interested in environmental education, work with a group or simply want to see your surroundings differently, we invite you to join us for this next chapter.
