Playing with the huerta: educational materials to encourage fruit and vegetable consumption in early childhood

Playing with the huerta introduces fruit and vegetables to young children through play and exploration. This association project is aimed at children aged 0 to 5, their families and educational settings. It seeks to spark curiosity about food and where it comes from, with activities to share at home or in the classroom and adapt to each child’s age and interests.

Creating an educational activity book

We have produced a 40-page document with 15 activities exploring fruit and vegetables from the huerta. It includes illustrated cards, matching and sorting games, activities about colours and sizes, the journey from garden to table and an invitation to discover seasonal food at the market. The book includes age-based suggestions and guidance on preparation and adult supervision.

Free publication in Resources

The document joins the healthy eating section of Resources, where it can be viewed and downloaded free of charge. It is available in Spanish so that families, early years settings and schools can select activities that suit their context and use them at their own pace.
